Americans bought $11.8 billion of products on TikTok Shop in the first half of 2026, up 103% from $5.8 billion a year earlier, according to a joint analysis by research firms Momentum Works and Tabcut reported by Tubefilter. Globally the platform moved $50.3 billion in six months and is projected to clear $123.5 billion for the year. Twenty million creators are now selling on it. Almost every one of them is being paid the same way: a one-time commission on somebody else's product. Key Takeaways:
  • TikTok Shop's US sales doubled to $11.8 billion in H1 2026, making the US its largest market, per Momentum Works and Tabcut
  • Global GMV hit $50.3 billion, up 92% year over year, on track for $123.5 billion in 2026
  • The Shop tab now closes 51.4% of attributed US GMV, up from 36%. Livestreams close just 8.2%
  • The creator base selling on TikTok Shop grew from 15.3 million to 20 million in one year
  • eMarketer expects TikTok Shop to pass $20 billion in US sales for full-year 2026 (Retail Dive)
  • Every dollar of it pays creators once. None of it compounds for the creator who drove the sale
TikTok Shop generated $50.3 billion in global sales in the first half of 2026, and the United States became its largest market at $11.8 billion, ahead of Indonesia. Five years ago the platform's commerce arm did less than $1 billion in a full year. Momentum Works and Tabcut project $123.5 billion for 2026, and eMarketer separately forecasts US sales alone will pass $20 billion this year on their way to $30 billion by 2028. For context, that growth curve puts a social app's shopping tab on a trajectory that took Amazon's marketplace more than a decade. The audience was already there. TikTok just added a checkout. Creators built that audience. The question this report never asks is what the 20 million creators driving those sales actually keep, and for how long. More than half of TikTok Shop's US sales now close in the Shop tab, not in videos or livestreams. The Shop tab's share of attributed GMV jumped from 36% to 51.4% in a year. Video still drives about 40%, and livestreams, the format most identified with creator selling, closed just 8.2%. Read that shift carefully, because it is the whole story of platform commerce maturing:

The creator's video starts the purchase. The Shop tab finishes it. TikTok Shop is becoming a search-and-browse marketplace where creator content is the top of the funnel, which means the creator's role is drifting toward what a billboard does: introduce the product, then exit the transaction. You have seen this movie. When a platform owns the checkout, the platform owns the customer, sets the fees, and decides what surfaces. The creator who made the sale happen gets a commission receipt, not a customer relationship. We wrote about the ownership side of this in TikTok's 2026 deal and why you don't own your audience, and the shape is identical here: your work, their asset. The number in this report that should stop you is not the $50.3 billion. It is the 20 million creators now selling on TikTok Shop, up from 15.3 million a year ago. Nearly 5 million new sellers joined in twelve months, while stores nearly tripled from 475,000 to 1.35 million. Divide the money by the people. $11.8 billion of US GMV across a creator pool that size means the median TikTok Shop creator is moving a few hundred dollars of product, earning a seller-set commission on it, once. PartnerCentric's consumer data, cited by Retail Dive, found US shoppers under 60 spent an average of $708 on TikTok Shop in a year. Real money, but it lands on whichever product wins the moment, and the commission clears one time. That is the affiliate treadmill: every month starts at zero, every commission depends on the algorithm surfacing your video, and every competitor is one of 20 million. It is the same structural problem as every payout program we covered in how much every platform pays creators in 2026, with a shopping cart attached. And the buyer you converted does not become yours. They become TikTok's, which is exactly the pattern we broke down in why creator product buyers never come back.

The first two rows are genuinely good news: your followers have been trained to buy without leaving the app. The bottom four rows are the fine print. The checkout, the customer record, the fee schedule, and the discovery algorithm all belong to the platform, and the seller pool competing for the same commissions grew 30% in a year. Treat TikTok Shop as proof of demand, not as the business. If your audience buys what you recommend, that is validated purchase intent, and it is worth more than the commission you collected on it. Run the two maths side by side. Say you drive $100,000 of TikTok Shop GMV this year at a typical seller-set commission. You bank a five-figure sum, once, and start January at zero. Now take 1,000 of those same buyers into a $9.99-a-month app with your name on it: that is roughly $8,500 every month after Apple's 15% small-business cut, about six figures a year, and it does not reset when the algorithm changes. The engagement math behind that comparison is the same one we walked through in why 50K engaged followers beats 5M passive ones. Keep the funnel, move the destination. The smartest read of the 51.4% Shop tab number is that discovery and checkout have separated. Your content is the discovery layer. Nothing forces the checkout to be TikTok's. Creators who sell other people's products on TikTok Shop while building their own subscription product get both: commission income today and an owned asset that compounds. We laid out the product options in how to monetize TikTok beyond the Creator Fund.

That is the gap BUILT BY FOUNDRY exists to close. We build the subscription app your audience pays for monthly, in about three weeks, at $0 upfront, and then we run and optimize it after launch. You keep posting. The checkout finally belongs to you. TikTok Shop generated $11.8 billion in US gross merchandise value in the first half of 2026, up 103% from $5.8 billion in the first half of 2025, according to analysis by Momentum Works and Tabcut. eMarketer forecasts full-year 2026 US sales will exceed $20 billion. About 20 million creators sell on TikTok Shop as of mid-2026, up from 15.3 million a year earlier, per Momentum Works and Tabcut. The number of stores on the platform grew from 475,000 to 1.35 million over the same period. No. TikTok Shop pays creators a seller-set commission each time a sale is attributed to their content. The payment clears once per sale, the customer relationship stays with TikTok and the seller, and the creator's income resets every month. 51.4% of attributed US TikTok Shop sales now close in the Shop tab, the platform's search-and-browse storefront, up from 36% a year earlier. Video drives about 40% of sales and livestreams close 8.2%, per Momentum Works and Tabcut.
TikTok Shop just proved your audience will spend $11.8 billion where you post. The only question is whose business collects it. BUILT BY FOUNDRY builds subscription apps for creators, then runs and optimizes them. $0 upfront, revenue share, about three weeks to the App Store.
