Key Takeaways:
  • Passion.io is a no-code app builder that claims 15,000+ apps launched and over $1 billion earned by creators
  • Plans run $119, $279, and $599 per month billed annually, but a native app in the App Store only comes with the $599 Expand tier: $7,188 a year, paid up front
  • On the two cheaper tiers, "your own app" means a web app your fans open in a browser, not an App Store listing
  • PassionPayments takes 1.9% to 3.9% of every sale on top of Apple, Google, and Stripe processing, and the AI coach is metered by message
  • Rating: 3.5 out of 5. A capable DIY tool with real traction, priced like a service while leaving all the work, and none of the ownership, with you
Verdict: Passion.io is one of the better no-code app builders for coaches and course creators, and its scale is real. But read the pricing page slowly. The product everyone thinks they are buying, a branded app in the App Store, costs $7,188 a year billed annually. You still build the app yourself, you still fight through App Store review yourself unless you pay more, and the day you stop paying, the app stops being yours. It is a decent tool wearing the price tag of a partner. Passion.io is a no-code platform that lets coaches and course creators assemble their own mobile app from templates, selling courses, communities, and AI coaching through a branded app without writing code. The company reports 15,000+ apps launched and more than $1 billion earned by creators on the platform, serving over 3 million end customers. Its flagship examples are coaching apps like Fit in 20, Study the Drums, and Cirque+, and it positions itself head-on against Kajabi, Skool, Thinkific, and Circle. The reputation is solid. Passion.io holds a 4.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot across more than 1,700 reviews, and the praise clusters around the same two things: the builder is genuinely easy, and support answers. For a DIY tool, those are the right things to be good at. Notice the word DIY, though. Passion.io sells you the toolbox. The app, the funnels, the content uploads, the pricing experiments: that is all your job. Keep that in mind when you see what the toolbox rents for. Passion.io costs $119 per month for Launch, $279 for Scale, and $599 for Expand, all billed annually, with a custom-priced Passion Plus tier above that. Only Expand and Plus include a native app listed in the App Store and Google Play. Those are the prices on Passion.io's live pricing page as of July 30, 2026. Paying month to month costs about 20% more.

Sit with that table for a second. The entire pitch of an app builder is an app on your fans' home screens, installed from the App Store, with push notifications. On Launch and Scale, you do not get that. You get a progressive web app your fans open in a browser tab. The real product starts at $599 a month, and because it is billed annually, the real entry price is $7,188 before your first subscriber pays you a cent. Then the meters start. PassionPayments takes a platform fee on every sale, from 3.9% on Launch down to 1.9% on Passion Plus, stacked on top of standard Apple, Google, and Stripe processing. The built-in AI coach is metered too: 3,000 messages a month on Launch, 7,500 on Scale, 20,000 on Expand. Meters on the way in, meters on the way out.

Passion.io bundles a drag-and-drop app builder, course and challenge templates, community spaces, an AI coach trained on your content, push notifications on higher tiers, and built-in payments, with app store submission support reserved for the top plans. Credit where due: for a solo coach, the builder is fast. The templates are tuned for exactly this customer, workout programs, drum lessons, 30-day challenges, and you can go from nothing to a working web app in a weekend without touching code. The AI coach is a real differentiator on paper: it answers member questions in your voice so you are not glued to a chat inbox. Payments, upsells, and funnels are built in, so the stack really is one login. But every one of those features is a template you fill in. Passion.io does not design your product, position it, price it, or maintain it. When Apple changes a requirement or your app needs a new screen, that work lands on your calendar. The company's own blog is candid that App Store submission is hard enough to need dedicated support, which is why hands-on submission help is a paid-tier feature rather than the default. We wrote about why Apple rejects creator apps and the short version is: review is a real gauntlet, and on most Passion.io plans you are running it alone. Passion.io's four real weaknesses are an App Store gate priced at $7,188 a year, a do-it-yourself workload dressed in done-for-you pricing, stacked fees and AI meters on top of the subscription, and a platform you can never take with you. 1. The app you came for is behind the most expensive public tier. Below $599 a month, "your own app" means a browser link. Fans who expect to tap an icon, get push notifications, and pay with Apple Pay only get that if you clear the Expand gate. That is a $7,188 annual commitment for a solo coach who has not proven the product yet. 2. It is priced like a service but delivered as a tool. $7,188 a year is agency-adjacent money. For it, you still do the building, the content, the funnel design, and most of the App Store fight. Compare that honestly with the true cost of a creator app: with Passion.io you are not buying the work, you are buying permission to do the work inside their template. 3. The meters stack. Platform fee of 1.9% to 3.9% on every sale, plus card and app store processing, plus AI message caps that push you up a tier when your community actually engages. Success makes the bill grow. That is the same structural problem we flagged in our Uscreen review: the platform earns more because you did. 4. You are renting, with a friendly landlord. Passion.io is fair about data: your content and your customer list are exportable and yours. But the app itself, the infrastructure, the templates, and the listing pipeline live on their platform. Stop paying and the product your fans use every day goes dark. Fifteen thousand creators built apps on Passion.io. None of them can sell those apps without Passion.io attached.

Passion.io fits hands-on coaches and course creators earning under $5K a month from their content business, who want to test a paid app themselves, are comfortable doing all the building, and can start on a web-only plan without an App Store listing.
  • Coaches validating a paid program who want a branded container for a course or challenge this month, not this quarter.
  • Tinkerers who genuinely enjoy building funnels and screens, and would rather spend evenings in a drag-and-drop editor than brief someone else.
  • Creators with small, warm audiences who can drive fans to a web link and do not need App Store discovery yet.
  • Anyone not ready to commit $7,188 up front, as long as they accept that the cheaper tiers are web apps, not App Store apps.
If that is you, Passion.io is a fair deal and earns its Trustpilot score. The trouble starts when you win: the moment your app is real, the meters, the tier gates, and the template ceiling all start costing you. Passion.io charges $7,188 a year for the right to assemble a templated app on rented infrastructure, while a custom-built creator app is an owned asset: your code direction, your App Store listing, your subscriber relationships, and resale value if you ever exit. Run the three-year math. Expand for three years is $21,564 in subscriptions, plus 1.9% to 3.9% of every sale, plus your own hours doing the building, and at the end you own nothing you could sell. A custom app inverts every one of those lines. The App Store listing compounds as a discovery channel that brings in subscribers who never saw your content. The monthly recurring revenue accrues to a business with your name on the incorporation papers, not a workspace inside someone else's platform. The honest counterargument is that custom development traditionally costs $50K to $200K upfront, which is exactly the fear Passion.io's pricing page is built on. Built by Foundry removes that tradeoff: we build, launch, and run the entire product for $0 upfront on a revenue share, live in about 3 weeks, App Store submission included, updates forever. Passion.io hands you the toolbox. We hand you the business. Passion.io is a legitimate company with real numbers behind it: 15,000+ apps, $1 billion+ in creator earnings, a 4.5 Trustpilot score. As a DIY tool for a coach testing a paid program on a web app, it works, and it earns its 3.5 out of 5. But it is priced at the exact point where DIY stops making sense. At $7,188 a year plus a cut of every sale, you are paying partner money for a template and doing the partner's job yourself. Creators do not lose on Passion.io because the tool is bad. They lose because the deal is upside down: maximum price, maximum effort, zero equity. Rent a toolbox to test an idea. Own the product when you mean it. Ready to own the app instead of assembling it? Built by Foundry builds custom subscription apps for creators: $0 upfront, revenue share, 3-week delivery, and we run everything forever.

Passion.io costs $119 per month for Launch, $279 for Scale, and $599 for Expand, all billed annually, with monthly billing costing about 20% more. The custom-priced Passion Plus tier sits above Expand. Prices verified on Passion.io's pricing page in July 2026. Only on the top tiers. The Launch and Scale plans deliver a web app that fans open in a browser. An App Store and Google Play listing requires the Expand plan at $599 per month billed annually, and fully done-for-you submission is reserved for Passion Plus. Yes. PassionPayments charges a platform fee on every sale, from 3.9% on the Launch plan down to 1.9% on Passion Plus, in addition to standard Apple, Google, and Stripe payment processing fees. Yes. Passion.io reports more than 15,000 apps launched and over $1 billion earned by creators on the platform, and it holds a 4.5 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot from more than 1,700 reviews. The complaints that do appear focus on tier limits and the work involved, not on fraud. It depends on the job. Kajabi and Thinkific are stronger for pure course delivery, Skool is simpler for communities, and a custom-built app is the only route where you own the software and the App Store listing outright. Built by Foundry builds custom creator apps for $0 upfront on a revenue share.
