How a round works
Three moves, then everyone argues.
A round takes about a minute. The person in the hot seat tells the truth, everyone else invents something believable, and the pile goes up on screen with no names on it.

Mary and Brianna Ferraro are twin sisters from New City, New York. They grew up in a big, animated family where there was never a day without music, and they have spent years turning that house into short films the rest of us recognise as our own.
Hearsay is the same joke made playable. The stories everyone remembers differently, the rules that exist because of one specific person, the arguments that never fully ended. Now your family is the one on screen.

How many people do I need?Three at minimum. One phone seats up to five, and Same room and Video call seat up to eight. The game needs one person in the hot seat and at least two others writing bluffs, otherwise there is nothing to choose between.
I downloaded it on my own. Can I try it?Pick One phone. Everyone plays on your device and passes it around, so nobody else has to download anything. Same room and Video call both need a phone in every hand, so they will not work until the rest of the family has the app.
Do I need an account?No, and there is nothing to sign up for. Hearsay has no accounts and no login. You open it and play.
Getting everyone in
How do the others join?The host starts a game and the app shows a short join code. Everyone else opens Hearsay, taps Join a game, and types that code. Same room and Video call work the same way; the only difference is whether you read the code out across the table or over the call.
Someone cannot join with the code.Check that everyone has a working connection and the same version of Hearsay. A code belongs to the host's current room. It stops working after the host closes the room or leaves it inactive long enough to expire. If the room is gone, have the host start a fresh one.
Does Video call mode need a special app?No. Start a call in whatever app the family already uses, then everyone joins the game with the code, exactly as they would in the same room.
During a round
How does a round work?One person is in the hot seat and answers the prompt honestly. Everyone else writes a lie. All the answers go up on screen with no names attached, the group picks the one they think is true, and then everyone votes for the funniest lie.
Does the app ever answer for someone who is missing?No. Hearsay does not fill in a name or write an answer on anyone's behalf. If a player leaves, Hearsay removes that player's future turn. The game may end early if too few people remain.
Safety
How do I remove someone from my room?Before the host starts the game, tap the × beside that player's name and confirm Remove. That device cannot rejoin the current room. Start a fresh room if you removed someone by mistake.
How do I report offensive content or behavior?Open Hearsay Settings and tap Report a safety issue, or use the safety-report link at the top of this page. Tell us what happened and when. Do not include private information you do not need us to review.
Does Hearsay filter answers?Yes. Hearsay blocks common profanity, links, email addresses, and phone numbers before an answer can enter the game. The host should still remove anyone who is making the room unsafe.
Packs
What does it cost?Hearsay includes six free packs. Family Pass unlocks the full paid pack library for $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year in the United States. Apple shows the current localized price before you confirm. The subscription renews automatically until you cancel it in your Apple Account.
Do guests need to buy anything?No. A Family Pass belongs to the host. When that host chooses a paid pack, everyone they invite can play it in that game.
How do I restore Family Pass?Open Hearsay Settings and tap Restore purchases while your device uses the same Apple Account that bought Family Pass. If access is still missing, email support with the approximate purchase date. Do not send payment-card details.
Are there prompts for holidays?Yes. Thanksgiving Table, Christmas Morning, and All About Mom are built, and they are playable any day of the year rather than only on the date.
Devices and accounts
Is there an Android version?Not yet. Hearsay is on iPhone first. There is a waitlist on builtbyfoundry.io/hearsay and we will write on the day an Android build lands, and not before.
What data does the app keep about me?Hearsay has no account. Your settings, display name, prompt history, and game-shelf summaries stay on your device. Connected rooms use a short-lived relay. The room database stores gatekeeping details such as the code, public keys, and expiry, but it does not store player names or answer text. Hearsay also sends limited product events and diagnostics without player names or answer text.
How do I get rid of everything?Delete Hearsay to remove its local data. Connected room records and rate-limit keys expire automatically. Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog, Sentry, Supabase, and any support provider keep information under their own retention rules. Email privacy@builtbyfoundry.io if you want to make a privacy request.
