Point of Divergence help
Quick answers to the most common Point of Divergence questions. If you hit something that isn't covered, we respond in one to two business days.Getting Started
What is Point of Divergence?Point of Divergence is a single-player alternate-history game from history creator Monsieur Z (Dean Monsieur). You take an 18-question political ideology test, then put that ideology in power in a narrative campaign called The Seven Nations of America, steering a fracturing United States through a 100-day constitutional crisis.
Do I need an account? No. The ideology test, the campaign, and your Chronicle all work without signing in. Sign in with Apple or Google is optional and only backs up your progress so you can restore it on a new device.
Which devices does it support?Point of Divergence runs on iPhone and iPad on recent versions of iOS.
The Test and the Campaign
How does the ideology test work? You answer 18 forced-choice political dilemmas. The app names the governing ideology your answers point to, then hands you a campaign to lead as that ideology. There are no neutral answers by design.
What is The Seven Nations of America? It is the first campaign. The union is coming apart along cultural and political lines, and you have 100 in-game days to hold it together, remake it, or preside over its end. Your decisions move factions, institutions, and the map, and lead to one of many endings.
What is an Open Order? When the decisions on offer are not the move you want, you can type your own order. The simulation reads it, works out a plausible consequence, and shows you the result before you commit.
Does the app use AI?No. Every scenario, decision, and outcome is written by the creator, and your Open Orders are interpreted entirely on your device by a fixed rules engine. Nothing you type is sent to a server or to an AI model.
Content
Is the content real history? No. Point of Divergence is fiction. The scenarios are alternate history written by Monsieur Z. The premise explores themes like secession and civil war as a thought experiment, in restrained editorial prose, and makes no claims about real people or real-world events.
