What is Greenhorn Grove?Greenhorn Grove is a from-scratch cooking app from homesteader Matthew Gauger. It gives you one curated recipe a day, guides each one with Matthew's real video and a step-by-step flow, and builds a pantry record of everything you have learned to make.
Do I need an account?You can start cooking without signing in using an anonymous account. Signing in with Apple or Google saves your pantry, saved recipes, and posts to your account so they survive reinstalls and follow you to a new phone.
Which devices does Greenhorn Grove support?Greenhorn Grove runs on iPhone and Android phones.
Do I need to pay to use it?No. Greenhorn Grove is free to download and use, with core recipes and features available at no cost. Greenhorn Kitchen Pro is an optional subscription that unlocks the full recipe library and more.
The Daily Recipe and Cooking
How does the daily recipe work?Each day, Greenhorn Grove features one from-scratch recipe chosen for the season and what you have already made. It is one clear thing to cook, not an endless feed. You can always browse the full library if you want something else.
Where do the videos come from?Every recipe is built around Matthew Gauger's own video from his existing channels, so you learn the skill in his real voice rather than from text alone, alongside a step-by-step guided flow with timers and an ingredient checklist.
Can I cook a recipe that isn't today's pick?Yes. Open the Recipes library at any time to find and start any available recipe. Pro unlocks the full library.
Your Pantry
What is the Pantry?The Pantry is your record of what you have actually made. Each finished recipe becomes a dated entry, with a photo of your attempt, so over time your shelf fills with the skills you have earned, like First Butter or Second Yogurt.
How do I mark something as made?When you finish a recipe, mark it as made and add an optional photo and note. It lands in your Pantry and updates your running record, including repeat counts when you make the same thing again.
Is my Pantry private?Yes. Your pantry, saved recipes, and cooking history are private to you and are not shown to other members unless you choose to share something in a Kitchen Table post.
The Kitchen Table
What is the Kitchen Table?The Kitchen Table is the community inside Greenhorn Grove. You can post a photo of an attempt, ask for help when something does not turn out right, and reply to and cheer on other members. All posts are tied to a recipe so advice stays specific.
Who can see my posts?Posts you publish to the Kitchen Table, including your text, photos, and display name, are visible to other members of the App. Do not post anything you want to keep private. You can delete your own posts at any time.
How do I report a post that breaks the rules?Use the report option on any post or comment. We review reports and remove content that breaks our community standards.
Greenhorn Kitchen Pro and Billing
What does Greenhorn Kitchen Pro unlock?Greenhorn Kitchen Pro unlocks the full recipe library and additional features beyond the free tier. The exact benefits are listed in the App at the point of purchase.
How do I cancel my subscription?On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, select Greenhorn Grove, and cancel. On Android, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile, tap Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. You keep Pro access until the end of the period you already paid for.
How do I get a refund?Apple and Google handle refunds for purchases made through their stores. Request Apple refunds at https://reportaproblem.apple.com/ and Google Play refunds through the Play Store. Foundry cannot issue store refunds directly.
I paid but don't see Pro features.Open the App's settings and tap Restore Purchases. If that does not work, email support@builtbyfoundry.io with the store account email you used and we will investigate.
Privacy and Data
Is my data private?Your account, pantry, saved recipes, and cooking history are tied to your account and private to you. Kitchen Table posts are shared with other members because that is a community space. Greenhorn Grove does not run behavioral analytics, crash telemetry, advertising, or cross-app tracking.
How do I delete my account and data?Email privacy@builtbyfoundry.io from the address tied to your account and we will remove or de-identify your active data, including your posts and uploaded photos, within 30 days. Backups are purged within 90 days.
Will you use my data to train AI?No. We do not send your posts, photos, pantry, or cooking history to AI providers for training.
Troubleshooting
Reminders aren't firing.Weekly cooking reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. Make sure notifications are enabled for Greenhorn Grove in your device settings. There is no remote push, so no internet connection is needed for reminders to fire.
The app is crashing.Make sure you are on the latest version from the App Store or Google Play and restart your device. If the crash persists, email us with your device model, OS version, and what you were doing right before the crash.
A video won't play.Recipe videos need an internet connection to stream. Check your connection and try again. If it keeps failing, let us know which recipe and we will look into it.
